Football Game Preview: Riverside Chargers vs. Howells-Dodge Jaguars

The Riverside Chargers will square off against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside has given up an average of 35.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Riverside fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Osceola on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 36-30 to the Bulldogs. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Riverside didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brady Carraher and Landyn Carraher.

Meanwhile, Howells-Dodge put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Fullerton with a sharp 44-20 victory. 44 seems to be a good number for the Jaguars as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Riverside better keep an eye on Hunter Luther. He was instrumental in Howells-Dodge's win, rushing for 163 yards and three TDs on only six carries. Luther's longest rush was for an impressive 69 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Meyer, who rushed for 28 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Howells-Dodge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 319 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 169 rushing yards in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Howells-Dodge's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Everything went Riverside's way against Howells-Dodge in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Riverside made off with a 44-20 win. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
