Basketball Game Preview: Moorhead Spuds vs. Sheyenne Mustangs

The Moorhead Spuds will challenge the Sheyenne Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Moorhead knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matches -- so hopefully Sheyenne likes a good challenge.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Moorhead beat St. Michael-Albertville 79-73. The win was all the more spectacular given the Spuds' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Knights are ranked eighth).

Meanwhile, Sheyenne ended up a good deal behind Horace on Friday and lost 81-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game back in December of 2024 (55), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.

Moorhead is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.9 points per game. As for Sheyenne, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Moorhead might still be hurting after the 70-47 loss they got from Sheyenne in their previous meeting back in January of 2016. Can Moorhead avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
