Softball Preview: Corinth Holders Pirates vs. Apex Friendship Patriots
The Corinth Holders Pirates will face off against the Apex Friendship Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Corinth Holders took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against South Johnston, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Corinth Holders skirted past South Johnston 8-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Rachel Miura was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was MacKenzie Murray, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Apex Friendship had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Seaforth 14-3 on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won three in a row.
Sydney Joyce made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Joyce was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kaylee Marquis and Cheyenne Christman did most of the damage at the plate: Marquis scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Christman went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
