Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Nettleton walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Alcorn Central Golden Bears 6-5 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Golden Bears: they've now won three in a row.

Bailey Payne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nettleton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Macy Sullivan, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Anna Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Nettleton's win bumped their record up to 24-5. As for Alcorn Central, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 18-8 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Nettleton beat the Golden Bears by a score of 10-2 on Thursday.
