Two dominant backs in Macrae Thompson and Connail Jackson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Bishop Verot Vikings will square off against the Cardinal Mooney Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Bishop Verot is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 22-14 win over Calvary Christian Academy. The Vikings pushed the score to 22-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Bishop Verot's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deshon Jenkins Jr, who rushed for 116 yards and one TD on only 13 carries. Jenkins Jr is becoming a predictor of the Vikings' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bishop Verot was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Bishop Verot didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Eli Cochran and Justin Rode. Rode has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Mooney entered their tilt with North Broward Prep on Friday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. They beat the Eagles by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 55-7. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Eagles are ranked 297th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cardinal Mooney's win came from a few key players Bishop Verot will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kymistrii Young, who picked up 139 receiving yards and one touchdown. He was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 65 yards. Braylen Brown was another key player, rushing for 67 yards and one score on only eight carries.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Cardinal Mooney, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Laron Foye, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Cardinal Mooney's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kj Brown, Bryce Fulda, and Brody Wyman, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in North Broward Prep's side was Jayden Burnett, who made six total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Bishop Verot's record is now 5-6. As for Cardinal Mooney, their record now sits at 10-1.
Bishop Verot was dealt a bruising 49-14 loss at the hands of Cardinal Mooney in their previous matchup back in September. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Vikings were down 35-7.
