Basketball Recap: New Roads Comes Up Short

New Roads played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Vistamar Vikings, falling 74-42. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1050th, while the Vikings are ranked 490th).

Vistamar's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Hill, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 27 points along with seven boards and four steals. Hill's evening made it 18 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon McMorris, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.

New Roads has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Vistamar, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

New Roads has already played their next matchup, a 62-44 defeat against Wildwood on the 25th. As for Vistamar, they will face off against Hawthorne Math & Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Vistamar's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
