Football Game Preview: Pagosa Springs Pirates vs. Gunnison Cowboys + How To Watch

The Pagosa Springs Pirates will face off against the Gunnison Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pagosa Springs will be strutting in after a victory while Gunnison will be coming in after a defeat.

Pagosa Springs lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bayfield, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Pirates blew past the Wolverines 55-7 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won three contests by 48 points or more so far this season.

Colton Lucero continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns. He has become a key player for Pagosa Springs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. Zander Lefthandbull was in the mix as well, providing the Pirates with one TD.

Meanwhile, Gunnison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 35-0 loss at the hands of Alamosa. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Cowboys were not able to get on the board.

Gunnison's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Pagosa Springs, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3.

Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Pagosa Springs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 226.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Gunnison, though, as they've been averaging only 69.5 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?

Pagosa Springs lost to Gunnison at home by a decisive 41-25 margin in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Pirates, Graden Buckhanan (who rushed for 245 yards and three scores while picking up 8.8 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
