Basketball Game Preview: George Jenkins Eagles vs. Lake Gibson Braves

Two dominant guards in Zakharia Rutledge and Jakhia Willis are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The George Jenkins Eagles and the Lake Gibson Braves will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

George Jenkins is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Haines City on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. George Jenkins came up short against Haines City, falling 59-39. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Lake Gibson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost to Excel Christian Academy at home by a 57-40 margin. The Braves were down 47-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Lake Gibson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grace Hough posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shania Benjamin, who put up nine points.

George Jenkins' defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Lake Gibson, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Everything came up roses for George Jenkins against Lake Gibson when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 71-27 win. Will George Jenkins repeat their success, or does Lake Gibson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
