Softball Game Preview: Donna North Chiefs vs. Weslaco East Wildcats

Donna North hasn't had much luck against Weslaco East recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Donna North Chiefs will head out to square off against the Weslaco East Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Donna North has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Donna North is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Monday. They came up short against Pace, falling 17-0.

Meanwhile, Weslaco East entered their tilt with Porter on Tuesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Cowboys by a score of 9-4.

Aubrey Zuniga made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Avery Cavazos was excellent, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Bella Herrera also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Weslaco East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Donna North's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Weslaco East, their record now sits at 10-2.

Donna North might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Weslaco East when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Donna North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
