Baseball Game Preview: Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons Golden Knights vs. Mayfield Panthers

The Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons Golden Knights will head out to take on the Mayfield Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons' offense. They came up short against Fonda-Fultonville on Wednesday, falling 10-0.

Meanwhile, Mayfield might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville who claimed the real prize. The Panthers fell 7-4 to the Wolves. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost three in a row.

Cubby Roth (C) put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Roth (C) wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Conyne, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Patrick Allen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons' record is now 0-12. As for Mayfield, their record now sits at 1-7.

Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons took their win against Mayfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2021 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Golden Knights repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
