Basketball Recap: Aubree Tate's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Terrell over Kaufman

Terrell was the 67-30 winner over Kaufman when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Terrell Tigers took a 52-34 bruising from the Kaufman Lions on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 663rd, while the Lions are ranked 171st).

Terrell's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubree Tate, who posted 22 points and three steals. That's the most steals Tate has posted since back in November of 2024. Markeita Shaw was another key player, putting up three points along with 11 boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Terrell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Kaufman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylee Wrenn, who put up 15 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Wrenn is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubre Prox, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 13 points along with eight boards and six assists.

Terrell's record now sits at 11-15. As for Kaufman, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Terrell Tigers face off against the Midlothian Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Kaufman, they will venture away from home to take on Midlothian Heritage at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Kaufman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.
