Marlington proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Salem Quakers, sneaking past 3-2. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 2-1 victory back in April.

Brock Woods was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Woods was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Woods wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Baldwin, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Marlington hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salem struck out nine times.

Marlington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Salem, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-21.

Looking ahead, Marlington will host Streetsboro at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Salem does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
