Football Recap: Atkins Takes a Loss

Atkins had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-7 to make it six. They had to suffer through a 49-0 loss at the hands of the Oak Grove Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Camels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 360th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 80th).

Brayden James threw for 70 yards on nine of 22 attempts. On the ground, Sekani Carter rushed for 33 yards.

As for Oak Grove, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won four contests by 37 points or more so far this season.

A big part of Oak Grove's victory came down to the chemistry between Grayson Treadway and his top target Amir Dalton. Treadway threw for 98 yards and three touchdowns on perfect 6-for-6 passing while Dalton rushed for 92 yards and one TD. Treadway has become a key player for Oak Grove: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.

Coming up, Atkins will host North Davidson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oak Grove, they will head out on the road to take on Mount Tabor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
