Football Game Preview: El Dorado Aztecs vs. Bel Air Highlanders

El Dorado is a perfect 6-0 against Bel Air since October of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (El Dorado has three straight victories, Bel Air has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

El Dorado is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 78-35 win over Parkland. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Aztecs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Matadors are ranked 745th).

It was another big night for Ryan Estrada, who rushed for 356 yards and six TDs on only 13 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 13th straight game with at least 122 rushing yards dating back to last season. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Jadarius Sanders, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: El Dorado was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 490 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

El Dorado didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Evan Corral. Matthew Pinto was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble, making 12 total tackles, and defending three passes.

Meanwhile, Bel Air fell victim to Americas and their airtight defense last Friday. They were beaten by the Trail Blazers 62-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Highlanders were not able to get on the board.

Bel Air's loss dropped their record down to 1-5-1. As for El Dorado, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Everything came up roses for El Dorado against Bel Air in their previous matchup back in September, as the team secured a 70-28 win. Do the Aztecs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
