Basketball Recap: Glenelg Gladiators vs. Hammond Golden Bears
The Glenelg Gladiators lost against the Hammond Golden Bears back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Glenelg was dealt a 58-25 loss at the hands of the Golden Bears. While losing is never fun, Glenelg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 21st).
Leading Hammond to victory were Sara Yarnell and Nia Green. Yarnell dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Green dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Green is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Delani Thomas, who scored four points along with two steals.
Glenelg's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Hammond, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.
Glenelg will be playing in front of their home fans against the at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Marriotts Ridge is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Hammond, they will head out on the road to challenge the Scorpions at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Oakland Mills and the Golden Bears are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
