Westville had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Washington Township Senators on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Blackhawks as they're now sitting on five straight.
Kierstin Vargas was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Miranda Sparks was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Westville's victory bumped their record up to 18-5. As for Washington Township, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.
Westville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-4 win against Morgan Township on the 30th. Washington Township does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
