Volleyball Recap: Isle of Wight Academy Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, Isle of Wight Academy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Southampton Academy Raiders 3-2. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Isle of Wight Academy wouldn't go down easily and took Southampton Academy into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 15-8.

Isle of Wight Academy found their leader in sophomore Camryn Williams, who had 20 digs and four aces. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Williams. Camryn Smith was another key player, getting 11 digs.

Isle of Wight Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in five consecutive matchups.

Southampton Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audrey Sawyer, who had 13 digs and four aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Turner, who had six digs and two aces.

Isle of Wight Academy's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Southampton Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-12-1.

Looking ahead, Isle of Wight Academy will head out on the road to take on Oaktree Academy at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southampton Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Amelia Academy on the 16th.
