Recap: Commerce Tigers vs. East Jackson Eagles

The Commerce Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 69-49 loss at the hands of East Jackson. Commerce was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as East Jackson apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Commerce's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Peters, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Peters set a new season high mark in blocks with four. Another player making a difference was Essien Lockleer, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Commerce has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for East Jackson, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Commerce will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Prince Avenue Christian at 7:30 a.m. on January 2, 2024. As for East Jackson, they will head out on the road to face off against Apalachee at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Apalachee is ranked 404th, while East Jackson is ranked 384th).
