Recap: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Mojave Rattlers

The Monterey Trail Mustangs waltzed into their matchup Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They snuck past Mojave with a 93-87 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monterey Trail to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brandon Gibson Jr, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gibson Jr has scored at least 25% of Monterey Trail's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kentrell Kelly, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Monterey Trail's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Mojave, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monterey Trail and Kennedy will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Kennedy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.9 points per game. As for Mojave, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Coronado at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Coronado knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matches -- so hopefully Mojave likes a good challenge.
