Basketball Recap: Neumann Gets the Win

Neumann hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They slipped by the Sunlake Seahawks 33-32 on Saturday.

Neumann's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hailey Scheffler led the charge by putting up 11 points. Caila Donley was another key player, posting four points and nine rebounds.

Neumann smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.

Several Seahawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Micikas, who posted seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaycie Hyde, who put up four points and six steals.

Neumann's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Sunlake, they moved to 9-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Neumann will face off against South Fort Myers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunlake, they will square off against Land O' Lakes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunlake is facing Land O' Lakes at the right time seeing as Land O' Lakes is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
