Preview: West Columbus Vikings vs. Heide Trask Titans
West Columbus is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Heide Trask is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The West Columbus Vikings will take on the Heide Trask Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in West Columbus' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, West Columbus beat East Columbus 59-53.
It was another big night for Unique Kelly, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of West Columbus' points. Tyler Watts-Brown was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, the matchup between Heide Trask and Pender on Tuesday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. Heide Trask took down Pender 61-47. Given Heide Trask's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Pender is ranked 492nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Columbus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Heide Trask, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
West Columbus lost to Heide Trask at home by a decisive 73-55 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Heide Trask's Myron Mckoy, who scored 30 points along with six assists and three steals.
