Basketball Recap: East Burke Falls to Alexander Central in First Game of Season

East Burke unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Alexander Central Cougars on Tuesday, falling 77-53. The Cavaliers were down 61-41 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

East Burke's loss came despite strong showings from Owen Hartmann and Tyler Brown. Hartmann shot 42% from the field on his way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists, while Brown posted 12 points. RJ Williams was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Noah VanBeurden was a one-man wrecking crew For Alexander Central. as he put up 30 points along with six boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kade Flowers, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Alexander Central has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. East Burke is headed away from home for the first time to take on St. Stephens at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Alexander Central, they will take on Davie County at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
