Baseball Recap: Jefferson's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Aurora Central, Jefferson was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Denver West Cowboys as the Jefferson Saints made off with an 18-1 win. This was payback for the Saints, who suffered a 10-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Demetrius Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on AJ Alvarado, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Humberto Carao Garcia, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver West only posted an OBP of .297.

Jefferson's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1. As for Denver West, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Jefferson will venture away from home to take on Rocky Mountain Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Denver West, they will welcome Arrupe Jesuit at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
