Softball Recap: Tesoro Comes Up Short

Tesoro had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 5-15 to make it four. They fell just short of the Aliso Niguel Wolverines by a score of 9-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 back in March.

Ellie Buffington made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Reese Fraser also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

As for Aliso Niguel, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On Aliso Niguel's side, Harper Zamora looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Amanda Elkins relieved her and did a solid job, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rylie Long, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Macie Romano, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Tesoro wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 18-17 loss against Mission Viejo on the 30th. As for Aliso Niguel, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Capistrano Valley on the 28th.
