Basketball Recap: Cottage Starts off Right with Win over Cross Keys

Cottage had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They snuck past the Cross Keys Phoenix with a 35-31 win. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Phoenix on their court since February 2, 2021.

Cottage got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Workman out in front who posted 12 points in addition to six assists and six steals. Those six assists gave Workman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabby Pressnall, who put up 11 points along with six rebounds and five blocks.

Despite the loss, Cross Keys saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayleen Reyes went 6-for-13 on her way to 13 points and three steals.

Looking ahead, Cottage will head out to challenge Greater Atlanta Adventist Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cross Keys, they will host Academe of the Oaks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
