Softball Recap: Lord Botetourt Gets the Win

18 must be Lord Botetourt's lucky number: they beat Blacksburg with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Cavaliers beat the Bruins by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-1. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won five in a row.

Olivia Pierce made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Abby Perkey was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Gracelynn Clark was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Lord Botetourt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .639. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Lord Botetourt's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Blacksburg, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-17.

Coming up, Lord Botetourt will host Northside at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Blacksburg, they will venture away from home to take on Christiansburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Demons have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
