Williston and Gainesville are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2021, but likely not for long. The Williston Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gainesville Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Williston will be strutting in after a victory while Gainesville will be coming in after a defeat.

Williston took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Chiefland get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Devils have posted since February 29, 2024.

Luna Asencion made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Asencion was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Asencion wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaelyn Williams, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Gainesville fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Columbia on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-5.

Lana Renicks was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-5. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisyn Gillins, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Williston came out on top in a nail-biter against Gainesville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Does Williston have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gainesville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
