Basketball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Mainland

Mainland had won seven straight home games dating back to last season and Canyon Powers did his part to make it eight on Saturday. The Buccaneers walked away with a 64-55 win over the Wildwood Wildcats with plenty of help from Powers, who almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game.

Wildwood lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tico Smith, who went 7-for-15 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Miller, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Mainland's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Wildwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Mainland will take on East River at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wildwood, they will face off against Mount Dora Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
