Baseball Recap: Jackson North Side Has No Trouble Against West Carroll

The third road matchup was the charm for Jackson North Side, as they earned their first away win of the season. They were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the West Carroll War Eagles on Friday. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by eight runs or more this season.

Cross Burgess made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Jackson North Side: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaterrious Coman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. George Starr was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Jackson North Side kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Carroll only managed four hits.

Jackson North Side has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. West Carroll is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Jackson North Side and Jackson South Side will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup will give Jackson North Side their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for West Carroll, they will host Stewart County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
