Baseball Game Preview: Island Coast Gators vs. Fort Myers Green Wave

Island Coast and Fort Myers are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Island Coast Gators will take on the Fort Myers Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Island Coast will be strutting in after a victory while Fort Myers will be coming in after a loss.

Fort Myers will be up against a hot Island Coast squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Island Coast was the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Ida Baker on Friday.

Jayven Torres and Archer Ellis did most of the damage at the plate: Torres scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Ellis scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Torres a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Isaac Lopez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Island Coast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ida Baker only posted an OBP of .250.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Fort Myers was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They fell just short of Island Coast by a score of 3-2. The Green Wave haven't had much luck with the Gators recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Fort Myers saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Fleming, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Island Coast's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Fort Myers, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Island Coast came out on top in a nail-biter against Fort Myers when the teams last played on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Island Coast since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
