Softball Recap: Monticello's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Monticello came into Thursday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Hamburg Lions on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Billies needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Addi Frazer made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Bliss Becker was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Kiley Lane was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Monticello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hamburg only managed nine hits.

Monticello's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Hamburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Monticello will challenge Hope at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monticello is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season. Hamburg will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Crossett at 5:00 p.m. on April 1st.
