Soccer Game Preview: Murphysboro vs. Carterville

The Murphysboro Red Devils will take on the Carterville Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Murphysboro barely beat Mater Dei the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Devils never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Saturday. Murphysboro's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matchups.

Izzy Doerr and Kate Guthman scored all four of Murphysboro's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 35 goals.

Meanwhile, Carterville waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 8-1 victory. With Carterville ahead 7-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Murphysboro's win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Carterville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Murphysboro got the 'W' in their previous meeting on April 2nd against Carterville by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
