Basketball Recap: Downtown Doral's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After flying high against iMater Charter last Wednesday, Downtown Doral came back down to earth. The matchup between the Downtown Doral Dolphins and the Mater Brickell Academy Bulls didn't end well, with the Downtown Doral Dolphins falling 68-54. The Dolphins were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulls from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Downtown Doral saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Samuel Salas went 10 for 21 on his way to 25 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Salas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Castro, who posted 13 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Downtown Doral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Downtown Doral's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4. As for Mater Brickell Academy, with the win, they broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7.

Downtown Doral will host Edison at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mater Brickell Academy, they will take on Pine Crest in a tournament on Thursday.
