Softball Game Preview: Brandon Blackhawks vs. Clio Mustangs

Brandon hasn't had much luck against Clio recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Blackhawks will square off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Brandon has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Brandon came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 17-0 to Holly.

Meanwhile, on Friday Clio's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against Escanaba. The one-run effort marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Escanaba's batters probably weren't too happy with Addie Taylor, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Taylor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Clio's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Brandon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brandon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .512. However, it's not like Clio struggles in that department as they've averaged .498. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Brandon might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from Clio when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Blackhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
