Basketball Recap: Tinayja Summers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Bend Riley over Kankakee Valley

South Bend Riley extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-3. The matchup between the Wildcats and the Kankakee Valley Kougars didn't end well, with the Wildcats falling 58-41. The Wildcats were down 54-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

South Bend Riley lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tinayja Summers, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Lafaye Gibson was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

As for Kankakee Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The contest marked their most dominant win of the season so far.

Leading Kankakee Valley to victory were Camry Krueger and Jenna Walker. Krueger shot 45% from the field en route to 17 points along with seven assists and six rebounds, while Walker went 6-for-10 to rack up 14 points and five steals. That's the most points Krueger has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Adams, who put up ten points.

South Bend Riley has already played their next matchup, a 57-43 defeat against Bremen on the 2nd. Kankakee Valley has also already played their next game (against Michigan City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
