Basketball Game Preview: DeSoto Thunderbirds vs. Tunica Academy Blue Devils

DeSoto is 6-0 against Tunica Academy since October of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The DeSoto Thunderbirds will host the Tunica Academy Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (DeSoto has six straight victories, Tunica Academy has 13 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

DeSoto is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their match on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 77-42 win over West Memphis Christian. The Thunderbirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Carsyn Gore, who posted 22 points along with eight assists and six steals. What's more, she also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in February. Kylee Jo Holder was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

DeSoto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Tunica Academy came up short against Hickory Flat two weeks ago, falling 53-33.

DeSoto pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Tunica Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

DeSoto was able to grind out a solid win over Tunica Academy in their previous meeting back in October, winning 30-20. Does DeSoto have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tunica Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
