Basketball Preview: Palm Desert Aztecs vs. West Valley Mustangs
The Palm Desert Aztecs will take on the West Valley Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. West Valley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Palm Desert, who comes in off a win.
While Aztecs fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They breezed past Yucca Valley to the tune of 116-36 on Tuesday. The Aztecs haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Palm Desert got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Wil Wilson out in front who went 10-for-13 to rack up 24 points in addition to six assists and five steals. That's the most steals Wilson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zane Jordan, who shot 83% from the field en route to 24 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, West Valley played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Redlands East Valley 95-43. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-19.
Palm Desert took their win against West Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 85-64 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aztecs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
