Baseball Recap: Wetumka Victorious

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Wetumka and Graham/Dustin, and Wetumka kept the tradition alive. The Chieftains' pitcher stepped up to hand the RiverHawk an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Chieftains in their matchups with the RiverHawk: they've now won nine in a row.

Creed Neese was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Wetumka let Noah Lee and Phillip Ross run wild. Lee got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Ross went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Ross a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Dwayne Lowe, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Wetumka now has a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Wetumka will take on Meeker at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Graham/Dustin, they will challenge Midway at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
