Softball Preview: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. Westview Wolverines

The El Capitan Vaqueros will face off against the Westview Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, El Capitan needed a bit of extra time to put away Clairemont. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Chieftains. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vaqueros.

Addison Higuera made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Higuera was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Quinnley Morehouse and Kylee Frazier did most of the damage at the plate: Morehouse got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI, while Frazier went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Frazier has posted since back in April of 2024. Isabella Farris also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

El Capitan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Westview waltzed into their match last Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victor by an 8-1 margin over the Cougars. The Wolverines' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Westview got a massive performance out of Kamilla Taraila, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Deng, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

The win got El Capitan back to even at 2-2. As for Westview, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. El Capitan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Westview struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

El Capitan skirted past Westview 2-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Capitan since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
