Recap: Ida Baker Bulldogs vs. Gateway Charter Griffins
It was a good run, but the Ida Baker Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to Gateway Charter 44-40.
Ida Baker lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maia Berdebes, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Berdebes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Julianna Nieves, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Gateway Charter's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katelyn Rosario, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Rosario scored 15 or more points. Lizy Mendez was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Ida Baker's defeat ended a 14-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for Gateway Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which lines up perfectly with their 9-3 record this season.
Ida Baker will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mariner at 6:00 p.m. Mariner has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Gateway Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Neumann at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Neumann is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.1 points per game.
