Newman Smith has won three straight games at home, while Creekview has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Trojans will welcome the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Newman Smith is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering West Mesquite just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 35-12 to the Wranglers. The Trojans were red-hot offensively heading into the matchup (they scored no less than 31 points in the six contests prior), but the Wranglers' defense proved too tough.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Maxim Mingo, who picked up 118 receiving yards and one TD.
Even if they lost, Newman Smith's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. West Mesquite's QB won't forget Gabe Haesacae anytime soon given he sacked him 2.5 times. Another thorn in the Wranglers' side was Markis Williams, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Creekview suffered their biggest loss since November 8, 2024 two weeks ago. They were dealt a 53-21 defeat at the hands of West Mesquite. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Mustangs' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Like Newman Smith, Creekview lost despite seeing results from several players. Ahmari Washington led the charge by picking up 91 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Cason Garcia was another key player, throwing for 284 yards and three touchdowns.
Newman Smith's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Creekview, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.
Newman Smith took their victory against Creekview in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 38-12 score. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Mustangs' Dre Richardson, who rushed for 204 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Trojans to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
