Baseball Game Preview: South Salem Saxons vs. Lakeridge Pacers

The South Salem Saxons will head out to square off against the Lakeridge Pacers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South Salem is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

South Salem is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: West Linn, who was ranked second at the time (South Salem was ranked first). The Saxons had just enough and edged out the Lions 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Saxons have posted since April 26, 2024.

Harrison Buckingham tossed a big game, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He also tossed five walks, marking his first of the season.

On the hitting side, Gavin Price and Teagan Scott did most of the damage at the plate: Price went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Scott scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Scott is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Noah Scharer, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Lakeridge was a bit more limited in their match on Monday. They lost 7-1 to La Salle.

Lakeridge now has a losing record of 4-5. As for South Salem, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.

South Salem was able to grind out a solid victory over Lakeridge in their previous matchup back in March of 2016, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saxons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
