Softball Recap: Deming Comes Up Short

Deming dropped down to 8-13 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Silver Slvr Ftg Colts, falling 8-2. The Wildcats were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Slvr Ftg Colts' pitchers proved too tough.

Cristal Enriquez was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

As for Silver, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games.

On Silver's side, Azariah Madrid was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Madrid was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kenia Nieto was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabell Villa, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Silver will challenge Cobre at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Deming will be paying especially close attention to the Slvr Ftg Colts' contest: after the Slvr Ftg Colts face off against the Indians, they'll take on Deming again at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
