Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ella Elsen and Malia Mcmanus Lead Lake Zurich to Victory

Lake Zurich won the last time they faced Wheeling and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bears narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 2-1.

Lake Zurich had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 27-25, 25-13.

Leading Lake Zurich to victory were Malia McManus and Ella Elsen. McManus had 11 digs and two aces, while Elsen had 18 assists. That's the most assists Elsen has posted over her last nine contests. Ava Chavez also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good servers: Lake Zurich was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. They are a perfect 10-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Lake Zurich's record now sits at 19-14. As for Wheeling, their loss dropped their record down to 24-12.

Coming up, Lake Zurich will head out on the road to challenge Fremd at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight. Wheeling does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
