Softball Recap: Marshall Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Marshall waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Jefferson Eagles by a score of 4-1. For the Cardinals, this counts as revenge for the 16-6 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2019.

Kennedy Weisensel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mariah Nemec was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Logan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Marshall hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

Marshall's record now sits at 8-4. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.

Coming up, Marshall will face off against Bonduel at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2.3, the Bears 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Jefferson, they will take on Brodhead at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
