Football Game Preview: Vista Grande Spartans vs. Casa Grande Cougars

The Vista Grande Spartans will head out to face off against the Casa Grande Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vista Grande will be strutting in after a win while Casa Grande will be coming in after a defeat.

Vista Grande took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past Ironwood Ridge 16-14. The victory was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Vista Grande relied on the efforts of D' Marco Decastro, who rushed for 134 yards and one score, and Traecyn Pauulu, who rushed for 137 yards and one TD while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Decastro has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-4 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Casa Grande was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 49-33 fall against Buena.

Casa Grande's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Vista Grande, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.

Vista Grande was dealt a bruising 62-7 loss at the hands of Casa Grande in their previous meeting back in October of 2020. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
