It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Gilman ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cadott Hornets 3-2. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Makii Austin, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Terran Schleis also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Gilman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

Gilman's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cadott, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilman will welcome Rib Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Redmen's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cadott, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McDonell Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
