Basketball Game Preview: Mater Brickell Academy Bulls vs. Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs

Having just played yesterday, the Mater Brickell Academy Bulls will head out on the road to face off against the Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Mater Brickell Academy is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Varela on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mater Brickell Academy came up short against Varela, falling 68-43. The Bulls were down 51-30 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Carroll came up short against Homestead on Saturday and fell 68-56. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mater Brickell Academy will need focus on slowing down Angel Marquez, one of several Archbishop Carroll players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 for 10 on his way to 15 points and seven boards. The dominant performance also gave Marquez a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Daniel Pazo, who went 5 of 9 en route to 10 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Archbishop Carroll smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Mater Brickell Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Archbishop Carroll, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.

Things could have been worse for Mater Brickell Academy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-41 loss to Archbishop Carroll when the teams last played on January 6th. Can Mater Brickell Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
