Basketball Recap: South Bend Washington Starts Season with Loss on the Road

South Bend Washington kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were outmatched by the Goshen RedHawks and fell 85-51. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Levi Sawatzky was nothing short of spectacular for Goshen: he went 8-for-17 on his way to 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The game was Sawatzky's 13th in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Karter Marcum, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

Goshen pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. South Bend Washington will face off against Bowman Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Goshen, they will head out to take on Elkhart at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
