Taylor County faced Sayre in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Cardinals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Spartans. The victory was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on four straight.
Gabe Cole made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Cole was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Kearney, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Silas Young was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Taylor County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.
